Digital U. at AFCAAM was a success. The students were immersed in a two week, intensive program introducing them to video production, videography, photography and multimedia storytelling. On the final day, members of the board, parents and local organizational leaders gathered to watch to productions.

We taught them the ethics behind the business too - copyright laws, etc. But most importantly we're teaching them another way to express themselves. Not everyone can speak or write eloquently, so media, in a way, it "the great mediator". Many of the students understand this type of communication better anyway.

• The After School Reading Program begins again on Monday August 15th.
• Mentoring Summer Camp concluded on Thursday, August 4th. The camp has taken place over the past three weeks and students have begun making preparations for their future.
• The Mentoring Program for Boys and Girls will begin in September for the Fall semester. Topics for the upcoming year will include etiquette on social media, the signs of a friend having substance abuse problems, and case studies on the different type of economic infrastructure that exist in our world today.
• A big "Thank You" to the Target Store on the southeast corner of Daniels Parkway and US 41 for their $2,000 Early Childhood Reading Grant. Target Grant Funds will be used to purchase computer software for the After School Reading Program. Their generosity is an indication of their commitment to the local Southwest Florida community. Thank you, Target.
• With assistance from Ronald McDonald Charities, AFCAAM is proposing to have the Florida Repertory Theatre’s Touring Theatre bring a live play to youth in two low socio-economic neighborhoods in Fort Myers (Dunbar and Harlem Heights). Attending the play and interacting with the actors afterward will give children an opportunity they otherwise would not have.
